Gabrielle Houston Neville

Gabrielle is currently the new head coach for the women’s volleyball team at UC Santa Cruz. This is her first year as head coach for the Banana Slugs. Prior to UCSC Gabrielle coached for 9 seasons at Cabrillo College where she lead the Seahawks to 9 Coast Conference Championships, five final-four appearances, 2 State Championships and a State Runner -Up. Gabrielle was voted the 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Coast Conference Coach of the Year and the 2010,2014 and 2017 Northern California Coach of the Year. In the 2013 she lead the Seahawks to a first ever undefeated California State title for a Northern California team in the 36 year history of the CCCAA. Her record when she left Cabrillo was 239-31.

Gabrielle has received her B.A. from U.C. Santa Barbara and her master’s degree from Arizona State University in Exercise Science where she was also a volleyball instructor for two years. Prior to Cabrillo, Gabby coached at Mt. Madonna High School for four seasons where she led her team to two CCS Championships and a California state title.

Gabrielle has coached for Main Beach for 16 seasons. Gabrielle has over 20 years experience as a head coach, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a certified Sports Performance coach through the USA Weightlifting Federation. When she is not in the gym teaching volleyball, she is in the weight room helping athletes to prepare physically for their upcoming seasons or playing on the beach.

Born and raised in Santa Cruz, teaching and coaching volleyball is her passion and with growing up on the beach, the sport has always been an integral part of her life.
